Wake up with one of our invigorating morning vinyasa yoga classes, indulge in an evening slow flow or yin class or just take quiet time in our journaling workshop for personal reflection. All yoga + wellness offerings are 100% optional. Attend all, a couple, or none of the classes offered.
You'll be a member of a private beach club during your time on retreat. Just 3-5 minutes from our villa, and within the same gated neighborhood, this beach club boasts a huge pool, several bars and restaurants and unparalleled white sand Caribbean views.
Our on-site private chef will prepare lovingly curated and mouth-watering breakfasts, light lunches you can eat poolside and several themed dinners including Dominican fare, Mexican cuisine and Asian fusion.
After yoga + breakfast one day, we'll head to the nearby Ecological Reserve and Park to explore their 500 plant types and swim in the crystal clear lagoons and centoes. This is a tropical excursion unlike any other that you don't want to miss.
Feel free to take one of the villa's bikes out for a spin. Or if you want more adventure in your week, for a small additional fee you can go kite surfing, stand up paddleboarding, play a round of golf overlooking the ocean or go horseback riding... all within the local area.
In search of some much-needed pampering? There is a beautiful spa within the larger resort property. This spa offers up massages, facials, body treatments, scrubs and mani pedis in luxurious tropical surrounds.
From the moment you step into our villa you'll feel that you've arrived into a lush and peaceful Caribbean sanctuary. Bright whites and rich wood tones are accented by fresh local greenery. The entire property is natural, yet sophisticated.
If your mind and body are feeling the effects of the last two years, this retreat will allow you to just be, without stress or responsibility. Journal, grab a siesta in the hammock or have a leisurely stroll on the beach. You'll return home renewed and refreshed.
In addition to our owner and Chief Zen Officer Anna, each Above Yoga retreat has one or two additional certified yoga teachers on-site who will lead a portion of the classes and support students in their practice. We find that an opportunity to participate in a variety of classes with various teaching styles adds to our guests’ overall retreat experience.
Anna is Above Yoga's Chief Zen Officer and lead yoga instructor. Anna handles all retreat planning and logistics on-site. She aims to hold space for others to experience personal growth, transformation and community. She enjoys teaching mindfully paced vinyasa flow classes that are accessible to every level of student as well as yin, gentle and restorative classes to relax the body.
Born in raised in the Dominican Republic's capital city of Santo Domingo, Yira has since lived across the world. She's settled back it the D.R. in Punta Cana. She's the owner and lead teacher for Ananda Yoga Studio. We are thrilled to have Yira scheduled to guest teach at least 2 classes on this retreat and share her 20 years of yoga experience, beginner-friendly approach and positive attitude with our guests.
Loretta Jo has been practicing yoga and guiding students for almost two decades. She created Yoga-Mojo and later, the Cary Yoga Collective, so all students can experience the uplifting magic that occurs within practice – the unified mental, physical, and spiritual “mojo” that moved her to begin her own personal yoga journey. Her holistic classes incorporate storytelling, Sanskrit language, mantras, mudras and yoga mythology; and are sprinkled with humor and joy.

You'll be flying into the Punta Cana, Dominican Republic airport (PUJ) and it's a short 15 minute ride (or less) to our villa. If you'd like to use the retreat transportation, aim to arrive after 2 pm on the first day of the retreat and depart before 3 pm on the final day.
Our private chef will be cooking up 3 meals a day for our group - have any special requests or dietary restrictions? No problem, just let us know when you book and we'll make sure you're covered!
The weather in the Dominican Republic this time of year is ideal. Lows in the 70s and highs in mid to upper 80s with constant breezes and occasional afternoon warm passing showers. A month prior to the retreat, you will be sent a recommended packing list; but you’ll just need comfortable clothes for yoga, bathing suits, beachy attire and sandals. As with most tropical locations right now, there is a chance for seaweed in the ocean that can wash up on the beach: "sargassum," which is harmless and cleaned daily.

This trip was fabulous. Anna is the epitome of a well-organized leader who is mindful of every detail. Her pre-trip communication and staying ahead of any possible challenges associated with travel and COVID protocol made for a safe experience.
Becky, Winston-Salem, NC (2021 D.R. Retreat)
This trip was the definition of a total relaxation vacation! The villa was beautiful and spacious, the meals were delicious and the beaches were beautiful! Anna planned the trip so that everything ran seamlessly!
Jennifer, Blacksburg, VA (2023 D.R. Retreat)
What a wonderful retreat! Above Yoga takes care of every detail making travel stress free and easy. Although I went for yoga, sun and relaxation, I came away grateful for the time spent with new friends exploring a new country. The nature walk and swim in the cenotes were the highlight of the trip.
Melissa, Downers Grove, IL (2021 D.R. Retreat)
This experience was absolutely the best! I loved being able to roll right into breakfast and dinner after the yoga. The meals by Chef Daniel were so good- fresh, healthy, delicious, and plenty of food so I never felt like I didn't have enough to eat. The villa felt like living in total luxury, and the on-site staff was friendly and there for anything we needed. Anna made sure we knew all yoga and activities were optional, so this really took the pressure off and allowed each of us to really make the vacation our own. The best part - spending time with and getting to know new friends on the trip! I highly recommend a retreat with Anna and Above Yoga, you won't be disappointed!
Lindsay, Charleston, SC (2021 D.R. Retreat)
This retreat was exactly what I needed. There is NO PRESSURE to attend yoga, the excursions, the dinners. You completely feel comfortable taking what YOU need on these retreats as we all come looking for something different. One of the things that stand out for myself and my fiancé, as we have traveled to these retreats together, is the planning, communication, the details that myself and most would probably forget. This is where Anna comes in. Her focus on detail, making each of us feel safe and welcome. It's the small details that go a long way, for someone like myself and fiancé or are new to traveling internationally, she made this experience so wonderful. This is our second retreat. We have already booked another this year, and plan to book again in 2025.
Tracey, Cornelius, NC (2023 D.R. Retreat)
This retreat was a wonderful experience. Anna was so helpful with preparations for the trip - very detailed information was sent concerning transfers at airport, packing list, and detailed itinerary. The villa was beautiful with a lot of areas to relax, and just a short golf cart ride to the beach. The chef was wonderful - every meal was delicious and he accommodated any special requests. Yoga classes were great - outside under the cabana by the pool. A beautiful setting for yoga. Cenote swim was in a beautiful location. It was a lot of fun getting to know our fellow travelers- many entertaining dinner conversations! A perfect vacation!
Elizabeth, Lake Wylie, SC (2021 D.R. Retreat)
I've never been the type of person to spend a lot of money on a "treat myself" vacation, and I've certainly never seen myself as the type of person that would go on a yoga retreat - I've probably only taken 20-30 yoga classes in my entire life. However, it seemed like the perfect combination of relaxation, yoga and beach time to help me unwind after a very busy year of work. Every vacation I typically take is action packed, from various tours to day-long hikes to filling every moment of every day sightseeing... and this trip was the exact opposite, in the best way! From the second I arrived at our villa, it was pure relaxation and a truly "unplugged" experience. I really enjoyed my morning runs followed by yoga next to the pool - it was the perfect start to each day. I napped in the pool, in the hammocks and at the beach, and read five books. I arrived back home after the trip feeling truly refreshed for the first time after a vacation, and still feel calmer even though I've been back in the real world for three weeks. Last thing - THE VILLA and FOOD! The villa was breathtakingly beautiful and the food was incredible - so fresh and delicious. I'll be dreaming about the poke bowl lunch for a very long time. THANK YOU so much for providing a vacation that was actually relaxing - and one that I'll never forget!
Colleen, Lakewood, OH (2023 D.R. Retreat)
The planning and organization were excellent - unlike any event I attended. The mobile app was great to have a quick glimpse of schedule multiple times a day. Everything about the retreat surpassed my expectations. Would do it again.
