Trip Tips

Why Go With Us?

Why Go With Us?

Maybe places like Colombia have always been on your list but you aren’t sure where to start for planning a trip there? You could scour Instagram for inspiration, read countless blogs about what to do, spend hours scrolling through TripAdvisor reviews on hotels - or you could skip all that and have it all planned for you. That’s where we come in! When you join any of our retreats you’ll immediately receive a FAQ email with suggestions and next steps, as well as be added to our private dedicated Facebook group with your fellow travelers where updates and additional information will be added often. We'll also host a pre-retreat Zoom about 6-8 months before the trip. Then a month before our adventure, you’ll receive a detailed itinerary, a suggested packing list and full information about how you’ll be picked up from the airport. Let someone else (who has traveled to Colombia multiple times) handle all the planning and logistics for you!

Getting There

Getting There

You will need to arrive in Cartagena late afternoon on the first day of the retreat and depart in the late morning on the final day. More details will be shared upon booking, as well as a link to book with our preferred travel agency as desired. The airport for pick up is Rafael Núñez International Airport (airport code: CTG). There are many direct or one-stop flights from major destinations in the United States.

Unique Accommodations

Unique Accommodations

Our boutique hotel is one of the best in the city and perfectly sized for our intimate group. This is a luxury hotel with the character of a Spanish Colonial residence. Originally built in the 17th century, it was restored under the most rigorous conservation standards. Please note, we are located at the heart of the walled city and therefore some amount of city noise is possible.

Weather + Climate

Weather + Climate

Average weather for Cartagena in March is: highs in the upper 80s (sometimes low 90s) and lows in the 70s. Expect ample sunshine (pack your sunscreen) and humidity. This is dry season, but with any tropical destination, there is a small chance of a passing rainstorms and of course - bugs!

Safety + Security

Safety + Security

This is not the Colombia of the 1980s! Colombia welcomes millions of international tourists every year and Cartagena is the most tourist-friendly and safest town in Colombia. Your trip leader has been to multiple cities in Colombia on her own twice in the last few years with zero concerns or incidents. Like any big city you should be mindful of your personal effects and valuables (or leave them at home) and not venture off alone at night. You'll be with the group often and with a bit of common sense you'll be secure and happy!

Payments + Policies

Payments + Policies

A 20% deposit secures your spot on this retreat, the remaining 80% can be paid off in any increments up to 90 days before the trip. Please read our full FAQs, liability waiver and cancellation policies before booking as you will be required to agree to them at checkout. www.aboveyoga.com/terms/terms_and_conditions

Visas + Currency

Visas + Currency

If you are a U.S. citizens you are not required to obtain a visa prior to entry into Colombia. For small purchases at corner stores and tips for guides the local currency is the best way to pay (Colombian Pesos). Plan to take out money at your local bank before the trip or use an ATM once in the country. Major credit cards are also accepted at most establishments.

Reviews

Another perfect trip! Anna’s attention to detail through thoughtfully planed itineraries, top notch accommodations, and personalized touches makes every retreat a truly memorable experience . Cartagena is a captivating destination that lives up to the culinary and culture tagline. There are endless opportunities for foodies, artists, history buffs and sun seekers alike!

Jess, Portsmouth, NH (Colombia 2025 Retreat)

The Above Yoga retreat to Colombia was a dream! The accommodations, the food, the activities, and the opportunity to experience the local culture were all fantastic. I especially enjoyed the “no pressure“ attitude when it came to opting out of yoga or any of the planned activities. I especially enjoyed the journaling session and the chance to get to know the other participants a little better. I also loved the exploration into local cuisine. Anna did a fantastic job of taking care of all of the details. Simply amazing!

Cathy, Winston-Salem, NC (Colombia 2025 Retreat)

This retreat to Colombia exceeded my already high expectations. The accommodations, the group size, the activities, the food, and the people were all amazing! A few of my favorite experiences were the boat ride and visit to the island, cooking class and the free time we had to explore! It was a fantastic trip! It was just the right amount of scheduled activities and free time. The yoga each day was “just right” for everyone who desired to participate. Thank you for this experience and I can’t wait for my next one!

Kelley, Chapel Hill, NC (Colombia 2025 Retreat)

I didn’t know I wanted to go to Panama until I saw this retreat on the Above Yoga website. The moment I read about this retreat I knew I needed to go. I was nervous about being a solo traveler in a group. I didn’t need to be. I was nervous about sharing a room with people I just met. I didn’t need to be. From the moment I booked to the post-retreat survey, the attention to detail, communication and offerings were top-notch. I knew this trip was going to be amazing, but it was so much more. I can’t even put it into words.

Becky, Milwaukee, WI (Panama 2023 Retreat)

What a wonderful retreat! Above Yoga takes care of every detail making travel stress free and easy. Although I went for yoga, sun and relaxation, I came away grateful for the time spent with new friends exploring a new country. The nature walk and swim in the cenotes were the highlight of the trip.

Melissa, Downers Grove, IL (Dominican 2021 Retreat)

Everything about this trip worked for me. The pre-trip communication was sufficient without being excessive. The airport pickup was smooth and painless. The yoga was perfect for me. I attended every class but knew I had the option to skip. The retreat property was beautiful, the owners and staff members were delightful, the food was delicious and all of the coastal excursions were great. It was just the right balance of activity and relaxation with cool new friends!
